FREUD
AND
PSYCHOANALYSIS
Translated
by
R.
F.
C.
Hull
Jung's
first
meeting
with
Freud took place
in
Feb
ruary
1
907,
though
the
two
had been
in
corres
pondence
for
a
year
and
Jung
had
been
applying
Freud's
ideas
in
various
directions since
1904.
Until
1912,
the association of
the two
doctors
was
very
close,
and
Jung
was
regarded
as
one
of
the
leading spokesmen
for
and
practitioners
of
psychoanalysis.
The
personal
relationship
subse
quently
became
remote,
though Jung
continued
to
serve as
president
of the
International
Psycho-
Analytical
Association
until
1914.
The
present
volume
gives
the
substance
of
Jung's published
writings
on Freud
and
psycho
analysis
between
1906
and
1916,
with two
later
papers.
Part
I
covers
the
period
of
enthusiastic
collaboration
and
contains nine
brief
studies
of
Freud's
theory
of
hysteria,
dream
analysis,
the
psychology
of
rumor,
the
work
of Morton
Prince,
and
other
subjects.
The
papers
in
Parts
II
and
III
contain
the essentials of
the
criticism
that led to
the
formal rupture
with
Freud.
The
chief
of
these
is
a
work
of
book
length,
"The
Theory
of
Psycho
analysis," originally
given
as a
series of lectures
at
the
medical school
at
Fordham
